coverimage In 2017, the University of Pécs celebrated the 650th anniversary of the foundation of the medieval university. The government of Hungary has helped our university, through a privileged tender, to be able to remember this jubilee worthy. With the support of the ‘University of Pécs 650 Jubilee’ tender, we organized an international conference on 12–13 October 2017 at the impressive location of the Granary Visitor Information Centre of the Bishopric of Pécs. 21 Central and Eastern European experts from Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Slovakia, and many Hungarian university history researchers have presented their research results from the Middle Ages to the present day. This volume contains the lectures that were given there. The written material of the lectures will be published as Volume 16 of the ‘Publications of the University Library of Pécs’ series at the end of 2017, in which 12 German and 7 English studies were given. The University Library of Pécs and Centre for Learning – as the program owners of the conference and the book volume, in close cooperation with the University of Pécs Faculty of Humanities Institute of History Department of Medieval and Early Modern History and the University of Pécs Archives – organized a successful international conference presenting the latest scientific achievements of Hungarian and European higher education history research. This volume, which the readers hold in their hand, contains a summary of this scientific meeting. Several colleagues have contributed to both the organization of the conference, the editing of the volume and the revising of foreign language texts.
